Anti-graffiti coating for concrete: things to keep in mind

Let’s face it: entrepreneurs and local authorities in urban areas have a full-time job removing graffiti from concrete facades, buildings and interiors. A waste of precious time, don’t you think? Once it is no longer possible to remove the graffiti, it gets more troublesome. When such damage has been dealt, it will even be necessary to paint these objects again, unfortunately. Well, not anymore with our anti-graffiti coatings!

Our permanent anti-graffiti coating for concrete prevents graffiti from adhering to the surface, making it easier to clean the contaminated surface.

Suitable for both outdoor and indoor application

Our anti-graffiti coatings not only protect your outside walls or objects from graffiti, they also provide long-term protection against pollution, algae, fungal attack, weathering by acid rain and many other substances, such as ammonia. Notwithstanding, our coatings are suitable for indoor application as well.

Common indoor applications of our anti-graffiti coatings, include:

• Toilet areas;
• Concert halls;
• Parking facilities;
• Sports stadiums.

Common outdoor applications of our anti-graffiti coatings, include:

• Bridges;
• Facades;
• Tunnels;
• Artworks;
• Power stations;
• Public and commercial buildings.

Anti-graffiti coating requires a multi-layered system

To safeguard protective qualities and to ensure a perfect result, we recommend to apply a primer or 2K PU coating before applying the anti-graffiti coating. This will improve adhesion of the finishing layer. To ensure a smooth and sustainable end result, please keep the application guidelines of both the primer and finish in mind.

For indoor and outdoor use in vandal-prone areas, you may also coat your wall with HIM FC130, our water dispersed, two components epoxy wall (and floor) coating. In this case, we recommend the following flooring system:

• Apply one layer of HIM FC130;
• Apply one layer HIM Anti-Graffiti, using a paint roller, or one layer of Korthals’ brushable anti-graffiti coating.

Transparent and coloured anti-graffiti coatings

Furthermore, anti-graffiti coatings are available in both coloured and transparent versions. In upholding an industrial look and feel, it is recommended to apply a transparent coating system on concrete.

However, if you prefer a coloured system, you may:

• Apply a coloured anti-graffiti coating on top of a coloured primer;
• Apply a transparent anti-graffiti coating on top of a coloured substrate. The anti-graffiti coating will, in this case, accentuate the underlying surface.
