Patines are based on dispersed color pigments and provide a light coverage. Patine needs to be applied between individual paint layers and serves as a shading effect to imitate an antique appearance. After drying, patines have to be abraded with Scotch Brite in order to ensure a gradual and beautiful color transition.
Soens distinguishes two types of patines: brush and dry patine. The first one contains a small amount of binder which enables the patine to be rubbed in with a cloth. Dry patines is mostly applied by spraying.
