For several companies, a Liquid-Tight Facility Declaration certificate is not only a legal obligation, but also an important investment in environmental protection and business continuity. It plays an important role in preventing soil contamination by hazardous substances. This certification must take place once every six years by an accredited inspection body according to the guidelines of the AS SIKB 6700.
The obligation applies to companies that work with liquids that pose a risk to soil and groundwater. This includes gas stations, chemical plants, paint factories, petroleum processors, car washes, printers, garages and transport companies with fuel storage. Our sister organization HIM Products also falls under these regulations.
The paint manufacturing hall and warehouse have an approved liquid-proof facility according to AS SIKB 6700, inspected by ABV Haukes Inspection Services.
Inspection according to SIKB protocols is primarily visual in nature, but very thorough. Inspectors assess the surface for liquid penetration, deformations, cracks and mechanical damage. Special attention is paid to seals – both in the floor and at vertical connections. Drainage is also checked for defects and the possibility of liquid runoff.
In addition to the visual inspection, the inspector can request documentation: design and revision drawings, specifications, material specifications including chemical resistance, and product certificates – to demonstrate proper material selection and execution.
Does the inspection detect defects? Then the inspected surface must be repaired until it is again completely liquid-proof or liquid-resistant.
Our sister organization, HIM Products, has several products that can help achieve liquid-tight facilities. For example, HIM Coving Mastic is regularly used to create hollow baseboards and seamless transitions between floor and wall – exceptionally suitable for preventing leaks in sealing applications. For waterproof finishes on both floors and walls, HIM FW is ideal, a 2K epoxy coating that provides optimal protection.
With our own experience as paint and floor (coating) manufacturers, we understand the challenges of these obligations. For companies that depend on this certification, choosing the right materials and partners from the start is essential – not only for achieving certification, but also for long-term environmental and business protection.
We are happy to meet with you personally to discuss the possibilities. There we will discuss your specific situation and advise on the best solutions for your business. Please contact us for a no-obligation appointment.
