In most cases, waterborne stains are preferred over solvent-based ones. Waterborne stains are environmentally friendly, low in odor, and have a relatively short drying time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key characteristics of waterborne stain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The absence of solvent-containing substances and its low odor make application easier;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No primer is needed for applying stain; waterborne stain can be applied directly to the wooden surface;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Water-based stain regulates moisture: the wood can still breathe normally;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stain alters the wood color but does not provide protection. For protection, a wood varnish should be applied on top of the stain. (A varnish layer seals, encapsulating any moisture present in the wood. Be aware of this and dry the wood if necessary beforehand.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Applications for waterborne stain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to indoor and outdoor furniture applications, waterborne stain is also suitable for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table><tbody><tr><td>Exterior cladding<\/td><td>Doors<\/td><td>Garage doors<\/td><td>Garden fences<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Balcony railings<\/td><td>Scaffolding<\/td><td>Decks<\/td><td>Musical instruments<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Window frames<\/td><td>Dormers<\/td><td>Artworks<\/td><td>Decorative objects<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>With transparent stain, the wood grain and texture remain most visible. Colored transparent variants can create a gradient effect. As a rule of thumb, remember: the darker the stain color, the less visible the wood grain and texture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Water-based stain is primarily used on beech, pine, and cherry wood.
